Welcome to Day Three!! I trust that you are persevering through the first few days, recognizing that things will get better after the third day. Right now your flesh is rebelling against the fast, and your body is detoxifying—purging itself of all the caffeine, sugars, and poisons that have built up in your body over the past year.
That is one reason why people who fast consistently live longer than normal. A study in Utah found that people who regularly fasted were about 45 percent less likely to be diagnosed with clogged arteries than those who did not regularly fast (Bismarck Tribune, Dec. 11, 2007, Page 3A).
As I was waiting on the Lord before the fast, I was strongly impacted by this thought: We must consistently fast in order to reignite our passion for God!!
Mark 12:30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and all your strength. This is the first commandment!!
Passion is the creative force behind the arts, drama, music, architecture, and anything else that has ever been accomplished with excellence! Passion energizes you to get up in the morning and motivates you to do something significant with your life. Passion turns a good athlete into a great athlete.
Jesus was asked “What is the most important truth in the Bible?” Listen how Jesus answered in the Message Bible:
Mark 12:30 Jesus said, “Love the Lord God will all your passion and prayer, and intelligence and energy. I want you to put some muscle, energy, and emotion into your relationship with me. Don’t be half-hearted. Give it all you’ve got!!
It is amazing how easy it is to lose our passion and just go through the motions in our walk with God. We are to seek Him passionately, love Him passionately and trust Him passionately. Anything else is totally unacceptable.
When our love for Jesus turns lukewarm, we are in deep trouble spiritually. God wants us to serve him with a red-hot heart on fire for Him!!
Romans 12:11 (Amp) Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor, be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord.
Notice, keeping the fire going in your life is not automatic. It is a choice to maintain the fervor and to have a hot heart spiritually. None of us are passionate about God by nature. There are too many distractions and busy schedules to pull us away into spiritual lethargy. If we are going to maintain the fire of the Holy Ghost, we must choose to do it!
How can we keep our passion fully ignited for Jesus? A consistent lifestyle of fasting really helps!
