Happy Halloween

We are coming up on Halloween, a holiday that we are constantly reminded of the negative side of the supernatural. In fact the thing that probably scares us the most is that there is a whole other plane of existence that affects us daily that we cannot see in the physical. How many of you have been affected by the demonic side of the spiritual realm? I can remember a time when I could see demons when I began to fall asleep. As my physical body was tired my spirit became hypersensitive to the spiritual atmosphere of my room. I remember hearing voices and thoughts that were not mine that spoke negatively over me. I remember vivid dreams of demonic attacks on me, often times being chased through the house by a demon trying to attack me, waking up in fear sometimes not realizing it was a dream. How many of you slept with a nightlight? Even Stephen King the horror writer sleeps with a nightlight. I believe that having a nightlight helps us stay focused on the physical realm long enough to fall asleep, but the truly scary thing is that the thing we are scared of is still there just your so focused in the physical you cannot see it. I remember falling asleep and seeing a tall shadowy figure stand over me, I remember hearing scratching/tapping sounds on the window, I thought it was a tree, the next day I inspected the window there was no tree near it. The next time I heard the scratching/ tapping I looked out the window and saw a face with a wicked smile, I know, you can see your refection in glass but I was not smiling and the face was deathly pale. I think nothing was more frightening that being 100% awake and having my bed breathe beneath me.

As a kid, I watch the X Files, my favorite TV show. They bravely investigated the supernatural. It was probably the first time I decided to face my fears and investigate what was the supernatural. In my early Christian years I was obsessed with the supernatural, reading anything I could about healings, casting out demons, prophecy, signs and wonders. Honestly not much has changed.  I would like to share with you a few things I have learned.

  1. God is Good and he is unmatched in power Col. 1:17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. for example negative media scary movies, pornography, violence can create footholds or negative atmosphere that the Devil can operate but it takes a lot to create a physical manifestation however entering in after just one worship song you can feel the power and the presences of God. God operates out of Love, the Devil operates out of Fear. Courage is not the absence of fear but the knowledge of who God is and who you are in Christ. Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
  2. Your words are powerful for good or for evil, Prov 18:21 The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. I remember praying for someone to get healed and I thought I am not a good person why would God use me to heal someone? And guess what? They got healed, God showed me it is not by my power but by his power people are healed, when I agreed in prayer a God moved. I have seen people healed physically, mentally and spiritually. I have witnessed tongues and Holy Ghost power and I have experienced tongues and Holy Ghost power, I have seen lives radically changed, I have prayed and worshiped and I have seen the devil flee, I have seen broken bones fixed, spines realigned, depression, and addictions broken. We are in a fight between God and Evil 2Cor 10:4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. The most powerful weapon we have is Christ’s love.
  3. God has a plan for you if you choose to walk in his will, John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Psalm 31:19 How great is your favor, which you store up for your loyal followers! In plain sight of everyone you bestow it on those who take shelter in you.
  4. It’s all about relationship with God: Matt 22:36-40 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”37 Jesus replied: "‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” If you love God you will obey Him. We obey God because we love him. Because He loves us, out of the overflow we can love others.

The most sobering scripture in the Bible is: Matt 7:21-23 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

It is not enough to know Jesus as Lord, even the devil has to submit to God. God is not looking for a servant, he has angels for that, you are not saved by doing good works, He created us in his image for relationship. So I encourage you to build that relationship with the Father, read you Bible, pray, and worship. Make God your priority because he made you his priority.
