#1 Reason We Fast || Day 5: 21 Day Fast

21 DAY FAST || DAY 5 : JAN. 8, 2016

Good Morning! I trust that your fasting time is going well for you. By now you should begin noticing the hunger pangs dying down and energy levels picking up a bit. Many times after about day 4 or 5 of the 21 day fast I have started awaking without an alarm quite early in the morning feeling full of energy and maintaining that energy throughout the day. One of the great benefits to the fast is the release of toxins from our bodies which rebuilds energy levels and strengthens the immune system. So stay encouraged and press on!

Yesterday Pastor Ed challenged us from Isaiah 58 in his encouraging email. I too want to reference a part of this powerful chapter on fasting. Isaiah 58:6-7 says,

"No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you; Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless; Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help."

The #1 reason we pray & fast is to grow in our intimacy with God and become more like Jesus. Do you see the parallels between what God defines as a pure fast and what Jesus came to do? In Luke 4:18 Jesus quotes from Isaiah 61 saying:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor, He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come."

When we fast, we pray and fast to become more like Jesus and better represent Jesus in the earth! We are in a time of the Lord's favor when we can grow in our understanding of God and our obedience to Him. Our potential for growth is unlimited on God's end. Any limitations to our growth are either a result of our flesh or un-renewed thoughts between our ears. I encourage you to make intimacy with God and obedience to God the greatest of the rewards you want to see through this fast. In doing so, God will bless every other part of your life just as it says in Isaiah 58:8-9

"Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I."

GOD BLESS!
